Jr and the Cleaning Lady
For the past few weeks a cleaning lady (CL) has been coming Wednesday nights. The first time Jr saw the Mrs giving CL supper he pulled her aside and noted that she is doing hachnosos orchim. (He had just learned about it because the פרשה was לך לך).
Then he asked if CL is Jewish. He is fascinated by this whole Jewish identity thing. He wants to know why we are Jewish and he occasionally asks if various people (e.g., the super, the mailman, etc.) are Jewish. But this is all for another post (on teaching Jr about "the other").

Jr saw the Mrs cleaning one day and he asked her if she's a cleaning lady.Labels: Jr

I am sure Mrs loved that question...
It's actually very common for kids Junior's age to ask "is she Jewish?" about everyone. He's just learning now that being Jewish is an important part of his identity, and he's trying to put the people and things around him into recognizable categories so that he can understand them.
Very common for children in Chu'l. The question hasn't come up for my kids yet. (Even the secular kids channel turns all holidays on kiddie shows into Jewish holidays- Halloween is Purim and I think they just skip Christmas altogether).
So what did you answer?
And CA, my kids ask me if the person is religious.

Reminds me of my first Shabbos in Lakewood Eir HaKodesh
Et Tu Jacob...
my juniorette also asks this question. I agree with super raizy. It is also a pleasure to work for people who are concerned about your well being. I'm sure your CL really appreciates dinner. When jr.'s music teacher comes we also try to offer dinner (Sometimes he has a gig and has to run or we haven't made dinner for ourselves.)
ALL:
i am going to be coming back to this topic
Did you come back to this topic yet?
BS:
not yet. do you think i do this professionally? :)
lol, I just had to ask. I figured perhaps it would be a reminder encase you forgot about it and wanted reminding.
